Chennai Sex Worker Murder Case: Investigation Reveals Financial Dispute Behind Deepa's Death

In a chilling incident, a woman's dismembered body was discovered inside a suitcase at a construction site in Thuraipakkam, Chennai.

Identified as Deepa, a 32-year-old from Chennai's Manali area, the gruesome discovery was made at around 9.30 am, prompting an immediate police investigation. The local police were notified by passersby who spotted blood seeping from the suitcase, leading to the retrieval of CCTV footage and the eventual identification of the victim.

Upon investigation, authorities arrested 23-year-old Manikandan, who lived a mere 100 meters from the crime scene. He was quickly linked to the murder of Deepa through the analysis of CCTV footage from the area.

The Economic Times reported that during police interrogation, Manikandan admitted to killing Deepa following a financial disagreement. It was revealed that the murder weapon was a hammer, which he used to fatally assault Deepa before cutting her body into pieces and concealing it within the suitcase.

Further inquiries uncovered that Deepa was engaged in sex work, having been introduced to Manikandan through a broker. This detail emerged alongside the revelation that Deepa's brother had filed a missing person's report after her failure to return home, indicating the family's unawareness of her tragic fate.

The police are now extending their investigation to locate the broker responsible for connecting Deepa with her killer.

"We are questioning the arrested Manikandan and trying to locate the broker who introduced the woman Deepa to the assailant," stated the investigating officer, highlighting the ongoing efforts to unravel the full extent of this heinous crime. The case has drawn significant attention, shedding light on the dangers faced by individuals in vulnerable professions and prompting a call for enhanced safety measures.
