Chennai Police Imposes Several Restrictions For PM Modi's Roadshow: No Crackers, No Hate Speeches

Ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit, the local police has imposed several restrictions for his road show in Thyagaraya Nagar, Sun News reported.

Volunteers have been directed not to burst firecrackers, set up banners and refrain from chanting slogans that incite hatred. Additionally, carrying flags is prohibited as part of the imposed restrictions, the report said.

The authorities have also warned that they will take legal action against violators.

Although no official schedule has been issued, senior BJP leaders have told The Times Of India that there will be a roadshow in Panagal Park in T Nagar at 5 pm.

T Nagar is situated within the south Chennai constituency, where former Telangana governor Tamilisai Soundararajan is contending against DMK's Thamizhachi Thangapandian and AIADMK's J Jayavardhan.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to visit Tamil Nadu for the seventh time this year, marking his first visit since the announcement of the Lok Sabha polls.

During his scheduled visits on April 9, 10, 13, and 14, he will conduct roadshows and address public gatherings across various districts including Chennai, Coimbatore, Nilgiris, Vellore, Perambalur, and Virudhunagar.

Among the 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, the BJP is contesting 23, the PMK 10, the G.K. Vasan-led Tamil Maanila Congress three, TTV Dhinakaran's AMMK two, and expelled AIADMK leader O Panneerselvam one seat.

Political pundits say that the PM has set his eyes on the constituencies where the BJP has some chances.

The BJP is trying to make inroads into Tamil Nadu politics this time. This time, it has not allied with major Dravidian parties such as the ruling DMK or the AIADMK rather it is going to polls by joining hands with smaller parties including the PMK and AMMK.

Recent surveys have shown that the BJP, which had secured over 3 per cent vote share, will get double-digit vote share in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu.
