Chennai: Man Dances Wearing Burqa During Ganesh Chaturthi Celebration, Arrested After Clip Went Viral

A video of a man dancing during Ganesh Chaturthi wearing a burqa in Tamil Nadu had gone viral.

The Chennai cops received a complaint in this regard on September 21 after which they started an investigation.

A person named Arun Kumar has now been arrested by the cops. He hails from Viruthampattu. He was arrested for trying to cause enmity between two communities.

The police department has said that they will take strict action against anyone who tries to disturb the peace. Meanwhile, the hunt for the other people involved in the incident is on.

In the clip doing rounds on social media site, he is seen dancing wearing a burqa.

Prior to the festival, the Chennai cops had issued set of rules and regulations over the installation and worship of Ganesh idols within the city.

The authorities had imposed a ban on the use of firecrackers at locations where Ganesh idols are set up, along procession routes, and at immersion points.

Senior police officials, including Additional Commissioner of Police Prem Anand Sinha (South), and joint commissioners R Sibi Chakravarthi (South Zone) and B Shamoondeshwari (North Zone), had conducted a meeting with approximately 200 representatives from 29 organizations that are involved in organizing the festival.

These organizers comprise groups such as Vishwa Hindu Parishad, Bharatiya Janata Party, Hindu Munnani, Hindu Makkal Katchi, Shiv Sena, Hindu Hanuman Sena, Bharat Hindu Munnani, among others.
