BJP Forges Alliances, Announces Candidates For Tamil Nadu Lok Sabha Elections 2024

The BJP is expanding its coalition in Tamil Nadu by including both large and small parties, offering them a share of the electoral seats. Recently, the Chief Election Commissioner, Rajiv Kumar, announced the schedule for the Lok Sabha elections. These elections are set to occur in seven phases, starting with Tamil Nadu. The final count of votes will be on June 4th. Following the announcement of the election dates, the model code of conduct was immediately implemented. Tamil Nadu will see its elections on April 19th. The BJP has solidified its alliance in the state, partnering with the PMK for the Lok Sabha elections. The PMK plans to contest in 10 parliamentary constituencies as part of this alliance.

BJP s Strategic Moves in Tamil Nadu for Lok Sabha Polls

Other parties joining the BJP coalition include those led by OPS, TTV Dhinakaran, GK Vasan, Sarath Kumar, A.C. Shanmugam, John Pandian, and Bharivendar. In an interesting move, the BJP has allocated one seat to Devanathan's Indian People's Education Development Association, a lesser-known party with uncertain voter support in Tamil Nadu. TTV Dhinakaran of the AMMK mentioned that although he requested only one seat within the coalition, they were allocated two. This raises questions about the BJP's strategy in distributing seats among its coalition partners.

As for candidate announcements, the BJP has started releasing names for the Lok Sabha election. In their first list, 195 candidates were announced including high-profile names like Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defense Minister Rajnath Singh, and Smriti Irani. This list features a mix of Union and state ministers, former chief ministers, women candidates, young leaders under 50 years old, and representatives from the OBC community. Key states like Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Delhi have significant representation among these candidates.

Following this initial announcement, a second list was released on March 13th with 72 more candidates. This includes notable figures such as Anurag Thakur, former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, Basavaraj Bommai, Piyush Goyal, and Anil Baluni. Young leaders like Tejasvi Surya and former Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai are also contesting in this election. With Tamil Nadu's candidate list expected to be announced shortly, there's speculation around Tamilisai Soundararajan's resignation as Governor of Telangana and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, hinting at her possible candidacy.

In summary, the BJP is strategically forming alliances and distributing seats among various parties for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Tamil Nadu. With a mix of veteran politicians and new faces on their candidate lists, the party aims to strengthen its position in the state. The anticipation grows as more candidate announcements are expected in the coming days.
