Army Jawan Alleges Wife Assaulted, Stripped In Tamil Nadu; Police Say Claims Exaggerated

In a distressing incident, an Army jawan serving in Kashmir alleged that his wife was attacked and molested by a mob in Tamil Nadu.

The incident came to light after Havildar Prabhakara, a serving jawan in the Indian Army, in a video appealed to Tamil Nadu DGP to take action against those who attacked his wife.

"I am Havaldar Prabhakaran, working in Jammu and Kashmir. I hail from Tiruvannamalai district, Polur Taluka, Padavedu village. I would like to bring to your notice that more than 120 people joining together have badly beaten up my wife," he said in a video

"The incident took place in Padavedu village in a place that belongs to the HR&CE departnment. They have destroyed the place and beaten up my wife also. She is bleeding from her nose and ears. Now she is admitted to the hospital. They have beaten up everyone," he added.

The video of Havildar Prabhakaran was shared on Twitter by a retired Army officer Lt Col N Thiagarajan.

"When a soldier leaves to protect the nation, it is the highest responsibility of the government to care for the spouse and family of the soldier," he tweeted along with the video.

However, responding to the viral video, Tamil Nadu Police dismissed the allegation saying the claims made in the video were exaggerated and the jawan's wife was not attacked at all.

"This was a dispute over a leased shop on a piece of land owned by Renugambal temple. The woman and her mother were at the spot when the incident happened. But the woman was not attacked at all," said SP Karthikeyan.

Taking to Twitter, Tamil Nadu BJP president K Annamalai asked his party men to reach out to the jawan's family.

"Had a telephonic conversation with the Havildar, who is bravely serving our country in Kashmir and his wife, based out of Tiruvannamalai. Truly gutted to hear her story and I felt ashamed that this had happened to her on our Tamil soil!," Annamalai tweeted.

"Our party people are rushing to attend to her now, who is admitted in a hospital in Vellore. We will stand with her and our Havildar's family in getting justice for her," he added.
