AIADMK To Have Alliance With Vijay's TVK To Take On DMK? Palaniswami Hints

The AIADMK has possibly hinted at joining hands with Tamizhaga Vetri Kazhagam ahead of the 2026 assembly polls.

Speaking to media on Friday, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami said that his party's only enemy is the DMK and the alliance will be formed when the election comes closer.

He said, "As elections come closer, alliances will be formed so that there is no division of votes...If needed, we will form an alliance and if we don't want to, we won't. AIADMK's stand is clear: We want the DMK government out of power. Nobody is our enemy except the DMK. The anti-people government must be thrown out of power. If they (DMK) want, they will join hands with them (BJP)."

While a section of media had speculated that the AIADMK might go back to the NDA alliance, his comments clearly indicates that he is looking at new partners. The BJP-AIADMK parted ways in 2023.

It does not come as a surprise as Vijay, who has been critical of the DMK and the BJP, has spared the AIADMK from criticism in his speeches.

However, Vijay's TVK, so far, has hinted that it has plans to go solo in the next elections. In fact, Jan Suraaj Party founder and renowned political strategist Prashant Kishor, who will be working with Vijay, said that TVK will not have any alliance in the 2026 elections.

Vijay is a newcomer to politics but he has a huge fan following among youths. Poll pundits are predicting that the TVK will easily get over 15-20 per cent votes. In the last Lok Sabha polls, the AIADMK secured 20.46% vote share. If the two parties join hands, it has a edge over the DMK which has alliance with the Congress and a few Tamil Nadu parties.

On the other hand, the BJP too is looking to have a grand alliance to defeat the DMK.
