AIADMK Candidates List: 127 Candidates Named as Party Finalizes Major Chunk of Seats

In a significant move toward finalizing its electoral battle plan, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami released the party's second list of candidates on Friday. This latest announcement names 127 contenders for the upcoming Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections, bringing the party's total count of declared candidates to 150.

The release follows a preliminary list of 23 candidates released on Wednesday. With the AIADMK slated to contest 167 seats in total, all eyes are now on the remaining 17 constituencies, which are expected to be filled in a third and final phase of announcements.

The second list is notable for how the party has addressed recent high-profile exits. In Gobichettipalayam, a long-standing AIADMK bastion, the party has nominated V.P. Prabhu.

This comes after the shocking departure of veteran leader K.A. Sengottaiyan to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). While Sengottaiyan's nephew, K.K. Selvan, had publicly expressed his readiness to challenge his uncle under the AIADMK banner, the party leadership ultimately opted for Prabhu.

A similar realignment was seen in Bodinayakkanur. Following O. Panneerselvam's shift to the DMK camp, the AIADMK has fielded V.T. Narayanasamy to reclaim the influential southern seat.

New Entrants and Noticing Absences

The leadership has also shown a willingness to fast-track new members. Leema Rose, who joined the party just a month ago, has been granted a ticket for the Lalgudi constituency, signalling a rewards-based approach for recent joiners.

Despite the bulk of the candidates being named, some prominent names remain conspicuously absent. Former minister Gokula Indira and several other senior leaders did not feature in today's list. Political analysts suggest these veterans may be reserved for the final 17 seats, which often include competitive urban pockets and strategic strongholds.

With 150 candidates now in the field, the AIADMK is effectively transitioning into full-scale campaign mode, focusing on a mix of loyalists and fresh faces to counter its rivals.
