A Coimbatore-Canada Love Story: Tamil Boy Marries Canadian Girlfriend In Tamil Nadu

Love is a force that unites people across castes, religions, races, languages, and nationalities. In one such story, a friendship that began in school and college blossomed into love, culminating in a traditional wedding between a young man from Coimbatore and a woman from Canada, with the full consent of their parents.

Gautham, the son of Mohan and Premalatha from the Nava India area of Coimbatore, studied in Canada for 11 years through school and college. There, he fell in love with Sarah, a fellow student and the daughter of Robert Douglas Broad and Elenita Yasanya Broad from Washington D.C., USA.

The couple informed their parents about their relationship during their college graduation ceremony in 2019 and asked for their blessings to get married. The parents agreed, promising to arrange the wedding after they both completed their postgraduate studies.

After finishing his master's degree, Gautham began working for a software company in Canada, where Sarah also found employment. Following this, both families decided to proceed with the wedding.

The bride's parents, having a deep appreciation for Indian and Tamil culture, expressed their wish for their daughter's wedding to be held in Coimbatore according to traditional Tamil customs. Agreeing to this, the bride, her parents, and 15 relatives arrived in Coimbatore two weeks ago.

They traveled to Kanchipuram to purchase traditional silk sarees and dhotis for the ceremony. Wedding invitations were also printed and distributed to the groom's family as per local customs.

On Thursday morning, the wedding ceremony took place at a hall in the CODISSIA complex in Coimbatore, complete with traditional Tamil rituals. The wedding was beautifully solemnized when the groom, Gautham, tied the sacred 'mangalyam' around the bride Sarah's neck. Relatives and friends of the bride from the USA and Canada attended and joyfully celebrated the unique, culture-rich ceremony.
