7 days state mourning announced over Jayalalithaa’s death
The order also states that during the seven day mourning period, the National Flag will fly at half mast on all government buildings.
The Tamil Nadu government on Tuesday declared seven days of state mourning following the death of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. The order copy came after three days of holidays was declared for all schools and colleges.

The order also states that during the seven day mourning period, the National Flag will fly at half mast on all government buildings. No official entertainment programs will be held during this period. All schools and colleges will remain shut for the next three days in Tamil Nadu.

J Jayalalithaa's demise was announced by Apollo Hospital on Tuesday. Her mortal remains will be placed at Rajaji Hall for public to offer their condolences. Heavy police deployment has been in place since Sunday evening after the late Tamil Nadu Chief Minister suffered a cardiac arrest.
Police deployment at borders has been heavy. Sensitive areas have been marked and additional security provided. The Tamil Nadu government had appointed two Inspector General of Police rank officers to maintain Law and order in Chennai earlier on Monday. Police personnel were deployed all through the way from Apollo hospital to Jayalalithaa's residence at Poes Garden.
