As Diwali 2025 is being celebrated across India on Monday, October 20, investors are wondering whether the stock market will remain open. Continuing its positive momentum, benchmark indices ended last week on a high, with the BSE Sensex jumping 484 points and the Nifty rising 124.55 points to close at a 52-week high on Friday. The gains were driven by buying in blue-chip banking and oil stocks along with foreign fund inflows, boosting investor sentiment ahead of Dhanteras.

Stock Market Open on Diwali

According to the NSE and BSE holiday calendar for October 2025, the Indian stock market will remain open as usual on Monday, October 20, 2025.

Muhurat Trading 2025 Date and Time

The stock exchanges will hold a special Muhurat trading session this year on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, as part of a long-standing tradition. The symbolic session will run for one hour from 1:45 pm to 2:45 pm, with a pre-opening session scheduled from 1:30 pm to 1:45 pm.

During this session, trading will be allowed in equities, futures and options, currency and commodity derivatives, and securities lending and borrowing (SLB).

No Evening Muhurat Trading This Year

Unlike previous years, when Muhurat trading was held in the evening, the session in 2025 will take place in the afternoon. Last year, the session ran from 6 pm to 7 pm.

Market Closure on October 22

The markets will remain closed on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, for Balipratipada. Trading will resume on Thursday, October 23, 2025.
