CrowdStrike CEO on Ongoing IT Outage: ‘Sorry, Will Take Time to Fix’
Crowdstrike CEO George Kurtz has attributed a global IT outage to a faulty content update. Apologising for the disruptions caused, he assured that the issue has been resolved. "We're deeply sorry," Kurtz stated, acknowledging the significant impact on banks, stock markets, supermarkets, airports, and various other sectors worldwide.

Global IT Outage: Crowdstrike's Response
Explaining the cause of the outage, Kurtz mentioned that a software bug in the update affected the Microsoft operating system. He added, "We identified this very quickly and remediated the issue." Despite fixing it promptly, he noted that it might take some time for all systems to return to normal. "It could be some time for some systems; it [won't] just automatically recover," he said.
Crowdstrike is known for its cybersecurity services aimed at preventing internet breaches or hacks for major companies globally. The firm confirmed that it had isolated the problem and deployed a fix. They clarified, "This is not a security incident or cyberattack. The issue has been identified, isolated and a fix has been deployed."
Impact and Recovery Efforts
Kurtz emphasised that their systems are constantly monitoring for new threats from adversaries. He reiterated that the outage was not due to a cyberattack but was related to the content update. "It wasn't a cyber attack. It was related to this content update," he explained.
The CEO also highlighted the efforts of his team during this challenging period. He mentioned having had "a long night" but assured that their end of the systems had been fixed. However, he cautioned that full recovery might take some time for all customers.
Crowdstrike's earlier statement confirmed their active collaboration with affected customers. They stated, "CrowdStrike is actively working with customers impacted by a defect found in a single content update for Windows hosts. Mac and Linux hosts are not impacted."
Future Precautions
Kurtz acknowledged the need to review what went wrong with this update thoroughly. He stressed their commitment to ensuring every customer fully recovers from this disruption. "It's our mission... to make sure that every customer is fully recovered," he affirmed.
The incident has raised concerns about potential financial losses for Crowdstrike, with estimates suggesting they could lose up to $16 billion, approximately one-fifth of its value.
This event underscores the critical importance of robust cybersecurity measures and swift response strategies in mitigating widespread disruptions caused by technical glitches.
