Woman Destroying Pookalam At Bengaluru Apartment Complex During Onam Draws Ire

In a video circulating online, a woman identified as Simi Nair can be seen arguing with residents while destroying the Pookalam. The 2:20-minute clip features her speaking in English and Malayalam.

Details surrounding the incident remain unclear, and HT.com has not independently verified the authenticity of the viral video.

The Pookalam, a cherished part of the Onam festival, symbolizes joy and unity. According to a post on X (formerly Twitter), it was carefully crafted by children in the community as part of the festivities.

While people around the world celebrated Onam with family and friends on September 15, footage from this Bengaluru society has sparked outrage, showing a woman, who is also a Malayalee, disrespecting the tradition. The video captures her stamping on and walking over the floral arrangement after confronting others about its presence in the common lobby.

In the viral video, Simi Nair is portrayed as disregarding the efforts and significance of the celebration. Initially, she argued with residents about displaying the Pookalam in the lobby instead of individual flats. Things escalated as she proceeded to stomp on the artwork without any hesitation or respect for the festive spirit.

While Onam is meant to reflect harmony and togetherness, the visuals from Bengaluru stand in stark contrast to the festival's essence, showcasing a deliberate act of destruction against a rangoli made by children.
