Will Actor Darshan And Gang Be Shifted To Tumkur Jail From Parappana Agrahara?
In a significant development in the Renuka Swamy murder case, the police have sought permission to shift some of the accused, including actor Darshan Thoogudeepa, from Parappana Agrahara Jail to Tumkur Jail. The police have cited concerns about law and order, stating that it is not safe for all the accused to be housed together.
The special public prosecutor, Prasanna Kumar, had earlier objected to the proposal to keep Darshan and his gang in the same jail, citing concerns about their safety. However, the lawyer representing Darshan and his gang has strongly opposed the police's request.

The police claim that there is a possibility of an attack on co-accused members of Darshan's gang, and therefore, it is necessary to shift them to a different location for their safety. While details of who might be targeted have been kept confidential, the police believe that this move will ensure the well-being of all accused in the case.
It must be noted that Darshan, along with two others, is currently housed in the high-security section of Parappana Agrahara Jail. This section consists of six rooms, each heavily secured and reserved for high-profile cases, including those involving the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and bomb blast accused. Darshan's room is strictly off-limits to ordinary inmates, with only security personnel and authorized visitors allowed access. The room is equipped with basic amenities such as an attached bathroom, a bed with a bedsheet, and reading materials like newspapers. However, there is no TV. Visitors are escorted to and from the room by staff, and police presence is constant in the security section.
According to reports, Darshan had difficulty sleeping after his arrival at Parappana Agrahara Jail. He appeared restless, staying awake late into the night. Eventually, he slept after consuming the standard prison meal of ragi ball (mudde), chapati, rice, and sambar. He woke up at six in the morning, completed his morning routine, had palav for breakfast, and then resumed his silence.
Darshan and his gang have so far spent 12 days in police custody before being sent to judicial custody. During this period, they were questioned extensively about their involvement in the murder and additional evidence was collected.
Meanwhile, Darshan's relatives were denied permission to visit him in jail yesterday, with reports indicating that they had quarreled with prison staff. The Parappana Agrahara central jail has become a hub for high-profile prisoners, with many VIPs currently incarcerated there.
The matter will come up for hearing in the Bengaluru ACMM court today.
