Why Meat Sale Is Banned In Bengaluru On September 7?
The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has announced a complete ban on meat sales in Bengaluru on September 7, coinciding with the Ganesh Chaturthi festival. This prohibition includes animal slaughter and the sale of meat in shops within BBMP's jurisdiction.

"Animal slaughter and sale of meat in shops is completely prohibited. Butchery under the jurisdiction of Burhat Bangalore Mahanagara Corporation on the occasion of the festival," Joint Director (Animal Husbandry) Brihat Bangalore Mahanagara Corporation was quoted as saying in a press note.
The Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has issued guidelines for Ganesh Chaturthi organisers to ensure safe electricity usage during celebrations. Organisers are advised to contact local sub-divisional officers for temporary electricity connections.
"Sub-divisional authorities have been directed to provide immediate electricity connections by the established norms, ensuring prompt coordination with local authority officials," said BESCOM. Mahantesh Bilagi, BESCOM Managing Director, emphasised safety during festivities.
"While celebrating the festival, the public must also prioritise safety. BESCOM will assist with the lighting system for the Ganesh festival. It is crucial to adhere to safety measures during the installation and dismantling of the idol at public events to prevent any electrical accidents," he stated.
Guidelines for Safe Electrical Installations
BESCOM has outlined several measures to ensure safety during Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations. When setting up pandals, serial lights, and other decorations, it is essential to handle electrical wires carefully and ensure proper insulation for serial lights wiring.
Organisers should avoid attaching 'shamiyanas,' tents, or other items to electrical wires, poles, or transformer stations. They must be cautious of overhead power lines during processions and refrain from attempting to lift power lines.
It is also important to inform Sub-Divisional Officers about procession routes in advance for assistance. Any live wires or electrical sparks should be reported immediately by calling the 1912 helpline.
BESCOM added that marking 'Danger Zones' where electrical equipment is installed for Ganesh pandals is crucial for safety.
The BBMP's decision aims to respect religious sentiments while ensuring public health and safety during Ganesh Chaturthi. The guidelines provided by BESCOM are designed to prevent electrical accidents and ensure a safe celebration for all participants.
