Who Is Virat Konduru? Telugu Actor and Bengaluru Business Heir Caught In Gold Smuggling Scandal
Telugu actor Virat Konduru, also known as Tarun Raj Konduru, has been arrested in connection with a gold smuggling case linked to Kannada actress Ranya Rao. The 30-year-old actor was taken into custody six days after Rao's arrest at Bengaluru airport on March 3 for allegedly smuggling 14.2 kg of gold from Dubai.
Who is Virat Konduru?

Virat Konduru, whose real name is Tarun Konduru Raju, hails from a prominent Bengaluru business family. He made his acting debut in the 2018 Telugu film "Parichayam", directed by Lakshmikanth Chenna.
According to the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Virat played a crucial role in the smuggling operation. He allegedly used his US passport to evade customs checks in Dubai, allowing him and Ranya Rao to transport gold without raising suspicion.
How Was the Smuggling Operation Carried Out?
Authorities believe that the accused duo pretended to be traveling to Geneva, Switzerland, where US passport holders do not require a separate visa. Instead of continuing to Switzerland, they allegedly smuggled the gold into India. By misleading Dubai customs, they were able to avoid scrutiny before arriving in Bengaluru.
DRI Investigation and Arrest
Following Ranya Rao's arrest, investigators analyzed her seized mobile phone and laptop, uncovering her links to Virat Konduru. Based on this evidence, a special court remanded Virat Konduru to DRI custody for five days.
Both actors are now facing serious charges under customs and smuggling laws, with further investigations underway.
