Watch: Heavy rain leads to leakage at Bengaluru airport's newly-built terminal 2

The Terminal 2 of Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport saw rainwater seeping into the building following heavy rains in the city on Tuesday night.

A video of rainwater stagnating at the T2 arrival has gone viral on social media, evoking strong reactions from netizens.

The much-hyped terminal, built at the cost of around Rs 5,000 crore witnessed wet floors, causing inconvenience to passengers.

Taking to Twitter, Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate shared a video of the swanky new terminal of the Airport impacted by the rain.

"This is a video not from rain forests of Amazon but Terminal 2 of Kempegowda International Airport of Bengaluru, Karnataka. First rain has the airport terminal built at a cost of Rs 5000 crore submerged under water," she tweeted.

"This is the New Infrastructure of PM Narendra Modi Ji's New India and 40 per cent Commission PayCM govt! Not impressive," she added.

However, Mohandas Pai, chairman of Aarin Capital and former Infosys executive, countered the Congress leaders claim saying that it is a leakage, and not any submergence.

"Idiotic and abusive tweet! This is built by BIAL not govt! This Is leakage not any submergence! Pl stop lying! BIAL has acknowledged this and is attending to this! It is a great airport, built by L&T, has teething issues which will get sorted out! We do not need such lies," Mohan Das Pai tweeted.

"A heavy downpour on the evening of May 2, 2023, caused leakage on the kerbside of Terminal 2 at Bengaluru Airport," the spokesperson of the Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL) said in a statement.

"We acknowledge that a large and new infrastructure such as T-2 will have teething problems, which we are attending to. Our teams are being pressed into action to resolve all issues", he added.

"The BIAL was committed to maintaining the highest standards of infrastructure and safety at both its terminals," he said.
