Uttarahalli Road Revamp Expected to Ease Traffic Across Bengaluru West

Work on improving Uttarahalli Main Road is finally gathering momentum, with Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd preparing to return to the site after months of delay. The road, widely known as Dr Vishnuvardhan Road, is a crucial link in the western part of the city and has long awaited a complete overhaul.

The plan is to widen the entire corridor and create a smooth, signal free stretch that will allow traffic to move easily between Mysuru Road and Kanakapura Road. Once the three point four kilometre section is resurfaced and expanded, officials expect a noticeable reduction in daily congestion, especially for commuters from Kengeri, Mylasandra and the surrounding areas.

Bengaluru Smart Infrastructure Ltd is resuming work on Dr. Vishnuvardhan Road (Uttarahalli Main Road), a 3.4 km stretch, to widen and create a signal-free corridor between Mysuru Road and Kanakapura Road, with a budget of 51 crore rupees, and aims to complete it within six months.

According to officials, the project is valued at fifty one crore rupees and involves the acquisition of one hundred and thirty three properties. The list includes one belonging to an elected representative. Fifteen property owners have agreed to accept transferable development rights and four have already received their documents. The remaining owners have indicated that they will cooperate once formal acquisition notices are issued.

A senior engineer from B SMILE said the team aims to begin work around Sankranti and complete the entire stretch within six months. The engineer added that preparations are already in place to avoid delays once the final permissions are cleared.

Earlier work by engineers from the former civic body covered excavation and utility shifting from the JSS Academy of Technical Education College side to Adithya Bakery, and the first kilometre of road was completed. The remaining portion could not progress because of objections raised by property owners and concerns over tree removal.

Permission from the former BBMP forest wing and the task of negotiating with one hundred and thirty three owners caused significant delays. After reviewing all possible alternatives for the trees affected by the widening, B SMILE is now preparing to issue the order for their removal.

The agency has also paid fourteen lakh rupees to Bengaluru Electricity Supply Company for relocating electric poles along the stretch.

The project is part of the Revised Master Plan of 2015 and comes under the chief minister's Navanagorathana programme. The redesigned road will span twenty four metres, with a central median, footpaths on both sides and wider carriageways to ensure smoother movement.

A senior engineer said the stretch will receive a proper blacktop finish and the quality of the surface will not be compromised. The agency hopes to open the upgraded road to the public by the fifteenth of August.

Traffic will continue to flow in both directions during the construction period. The current build up near the Mysuru Road junction is expected to ease considerably once the widened corridor is completed, offering motorists a faster and more streamlined route towards Kanakapura Road.
