U Girders Shine, Foot Over Bridge Gone: Namma Metro Progress Puts Ramamurthy Nagar Pedestrians At Risk

In a significant development, U Girders have been successfully installed atop the Foot Over Bridge (FOB) at Ramamurthy Nagar on Outer Ring Road (ORR) in Bengaluru. Earlier, the FOB was dismantled to facilitate the ongoing expansion efforts of Namma Metro.

The decision to remove the existing Foot Over Bridge was a strategic move aligned with the Namma Metro project, demonstrating Bengaluru's commitment to modernize its transportation infrastructure.

However, residents and pedestrians in Ramamurthy Nagar now face a safety dilemma following the partial dismantling of the only Foot Over Bridge near the Outer Ring Road signal. The removal of this crucial crosswalk leaves them with the choice of inconvenient detours or navigating the dangers of a busy, continuous traffic flow. Pedestrians are now compelled to take a 250-meter detour or opt for the hazardous path of crossing the road, compromising their safety.

Local residents express frustration, criticizing the lack of prior notice and attributing the situation to the Bangalore Metropolitan Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), which, they argue, failed to provide an alternative before disrupting this vital pedestrian link.

BMRCL Chief Public Relations Officer B L Yashavanth Chavan responded to concerns, stating that the foot over bridge was "dismantled" to expedite the metro project. He assured that metro authorities would carefully consider the technicalities before making a suitable decision.
