TN Congress Leader Falls Victim To Sextortion Ring In Bengaluru

A Tamil Nadu Congress working president and businessman faced a barrage of extortion calls after receiving a video call from a woman posing nude.

Rangarajan Mohan Kumaramangalam, 45, holds the position of working president and is a member of the Tamil Nadu Congress executive committee. He resides in an apartment in Kodihalli on Old Airport Road. Initially, he complied with the miscreants' demands, paying them Rs 6,000.

However, when the extortionists demanded more money, he sought assistance from the police. In his complaint to the Cyber Crime police station on November 11, the politician-businessman explained that he had unexpectedly received a WhatsApp video call the day before. Unaware that the call had connected, he became aware only upon hearing noises and discovered a nude woman on the mobile screen before promptly ending the call.

According to a senior police officer, the culprits obtained Kumaramangalam's photos from his social media profile. Suspicions point to the miscreants originating from Jamtara in Jharkhand.
