Silk Board Flyover Closure: Namma Metro Work To Worsen Traffic Woes For The Next 4 Months

Commuters in Bengaluru are set to face further traffic challenges as Silk Board Junction's congestion issues may escalate. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced on Friday that one side of the flyover ramp would undergo partial closure due to ongoing Namma Metro construction work.

The BMRCL issued an official statement, revealing that a 2.5-meter section on both sides of the main carriageway of the flyover's up and down ramp near Madiwala would be barricaded for a duration of four months, effective from today. This partial closure is because to facilitate the BMRCL's execution of loop and ramp flyover staging work, as stated in the announcement.

This decision to temporarily close the flyover is part of a larger endeavor to meet the Karnataka government's ambitious 2026 completion deadline for the Namma metro Blue Line project, spanning from the Silk Board Flyover to Kempegowda International Airport. The extensive construction work associated with this infrastructure project has already led to disruptions, necessitating the partial closure of the Central Silk Board Junction Flyover on the fold side.

The BMRCL said, "Central Silk Board flyover up and down ramp carriageway (Madivala side) will be partially barricaded from October 21 (2.50 mts on both carriageways for 4 months) temporarily for carrying out loops and ramp flyover staging work. Public cooperation is required. Inconvenience caused is regretted."

Blue Line Namma Metro

The Blue Line, also known as the ORR-Airport Metro Line, is an integral component of Bangalore, Karnataka's Namma Metro rail network, offering an extensive and efficient transit system. This line is divided into two vital segments - Phase-2A, which spans from Silkboard to KR Puram, and Phase-2B, encompassing the stretch from KR Puram to the Kempegowda International Airport.

Phase-2A commenced its construction journey in August 2021, signifying a significant step toward bolstering Bangalore's public transportation network. Meanwhile, Phase-2B is poised to embark on its construction endeavors in February 2022, further solidifying the city's commitment to a well-connected metro system.

The extensive Blue Line, measuring 58.19 kilometers in total length, seamlessly links the Central Silk Board to the Kempegowda International Airport. The majority of the line is elevated, providing a swift and efficient means of travel. However, a noteworthy aspect of the route includes an at-grade section near the airport, ensuring convenient access. Additionally, the line incorporates two concise underground segments, primarily while passing through the Jakkur Aerodrome and Yelahanka AFB.
