Amid tensions over power-sharing, the meeting aims to resolve ongoing disputes. The party's high command has instructed both leaders to discuss and potentially end the current deadlock.

DK Shivakumar, along with his supporters, has insisted that he should be promoted to the Chief Minister's position, a role he claims was promised by the party leadership after their 2023 election victory. However, Siddaramaiah and his followers deny any such agreement was made, stating no pact exists regarding leadership changes.

Leadership Dynamics and Internal Differences

Siddaramaiah recently downplayed any internal conflicts, asserting his commitment to follow the high command's decisions. He emphasised his adherence to their instructions, stating that tomorrow's meeting is simply a breakfast gathering. "Whatever the high command says, I will go by it," he reiterated.

Meanwhile, Home Minister G Parameshwara expressed his support for Shivakumar as Chief Minister, should the high command desire it. In contrast, Siddaramaiah supporter Zameer Ahmed Khan insisted Siddaramaiah would retain his position as Chief Minister, highlighting the division within the party.

The Congress high command is currently evaluating the potential implications of a leadership change in Karnataka. If Siddaramaiah were replaced, sources indicate Shivakumar is the likely successor. Siddaramaiah is seen as a popular leader with strong backing from various communities, while Shivakumar's organisational and election management skills are considered valuable for the party's future electoral strategies.

Adding to the tension, a group of MLAs supporting Shivakumar recently travelled to Delhi to urge the Congress leadership to appoint him as Chief Minister. This move indicates an escalation in the internal struggle for power within the party, further complicating the situation.

The alleged "2.5-year deal" concerning the rotation of the Chief Minister's role is under scrutiny by the Congress leadership.
