Should RCB s IPL Matches In Bengaluru Be Cancelled Over Water Crisis Netizens Demand

The full list of the IPL has not been released as the BCCI is awaiting the announcement of poll dates for the upcoming Lok Sabha from the Election Commission.

The full list will be released once the elections dates are out. However, going by the partial list, there are three matches will be played. The first match in the Garden City will be played on March 25 when the home team takes on the Punjab Kings followed by second match on March 9 between the RCB and Kolkata Knight Riders and the third on April 2 between the RCB and Lucknow Super Giants.

However, a section of netizens are now demanding the BCCI to cancel the matches in Bengaluru due to water crisis.

"Cancel IPL matches in Bengaluru due to prevailing water crisis. #BengaluruWaterCrisis," a user wrote on Twitter.

The second user commented, "'' So , don't conduct IPL match in Bangalore cricket stadium definitely the Usage of water will be High so do not conduct the match in Bangalore ''...by RCB fan 😓😑 @RCBTweets."

Concerns arise regarding the water demand for a stadium amidst the water crisis affecting the Garden City.

Another user questioned, "How is Chinnaswamy cricket stadium getting water. It requires 15,000-20,000 litres of water daily to maintain a cricket pitch."

Bengaluru is grappling with unprecedented water crisis exacerbated by poor rainfall in 2023. This has also forced The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) to prohibit the use of drinking water for car washing, construction, gardening, fountains, road repairs, and maintenance tasks.

Also, BWSSB has announced a penalty of Rs 5,000 for those who violate these regulations. This measure is aimed at restricting people from using water carefully.

Currently, Bengaluru requires 1,450 mld (million liters per day) of water supply, with the city witnessing a 50 percent deficit, particularly in groundwater resources.

The situation has become so bad that there are reports which claim that people from big apartments are going to malls and gyms for bathing and toilets due to water crisis.

Even the tanker waters have become expensive although the state government regulated the prices days ago.
