Sexual Assault Case Filed Against Ex-Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa

Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa has been booked under the POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences) Act after a 17-year-old lodged a complaint on Thursday at Sadashivanagar police station.

The case has been filed under Section 8 (sexual assault) of POCSO and Section 354 A (assaults or uses criminal force to any woman) of the Indian Penal Code.

Based on the FIR, the incident occurred on February 2 when the minor and her mother visited the former Chief Minister's residence seeking assistance. The minor had been subjected to sexual assault, prompting her family to seek help from the BJP leader.

The victim's mother has accused the BJP leader of sexually assaulting the minor in a room, reports claim.

BS Yediyurappa, a prominent figure in Karnataka politics, has held various key positions in the party and four times Chief Minister of the state. He had also served three terms as Leader of the Opposition in the state Legislative Assembly.

He holds the record for being the longest-serving BJP Chief Minister of Karnataka. Representing the Shikaripura constituency in Shimoga district, he has been elected as an MLA eight times.

Yediyurappa first became Chief Minister in 2008 but resigned in 2011 due to a corruption case. He later left the BJP due to alleged mistreatment and formed his own party, the Karnataka Janata Paksha. However, he rejoined the BJP in 2014 and was elected to the Lok Sabha before returning to state politics.

In 2018, he briefly served as Chief Minister but resigned due to a lack of majority support. He reclaimed the position in 2019 after the collapse of the Kumaraswamy government and secured a majority in subsequent by-elections, solidifying his leadership.

In 2021, he resigned as the CM. His son BY Vijayendra is the current Karnataka BJP Chief.
