K'taka HC to take up Jaya's appeal

Earlier in the morning, security was beefed up around the Karnataka High Court.

The police officials who had faced a tough time last time when the bail hearing was on, said that "unnecessary crowds will not be allowed to gather around the venue and if the need be even Section 144 will be imposed."

Hearing from Jan 5 onwards

Although there would be a mention of the case made on Jan 2, the hearing will commence only from Jan 5 onwards since the special judge appointed to hear the case is on leave. Justice Kumaraswamy who will hear the matter on a day to day basis will be back from leave on Jan 5 following which the matter will be taken up.

The Supreme Court has directed that the matter be heard and disposed off in three months time. While granting her bail, the Supreme Court had also stated that the matter shall be heard on a day to day basis.

Profile of Justice Kumaraswamy

Justice Chikka Rachappa Kumaraswamy is considered to be a no nonsense judge. Those who have argued before him say that he talks very little and this gives both parties an ample opportunity to argue their case.

Born on 25-08-1953, he enrolled as an advocate on 11-03-1983. He practised in Civil, Labour and Criminal Courts, Bangalore, and worked as Principal District and Session Judge.

He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court on 07-03-2005 and became a permanent judge on 01.03.2007.
