RCB Fans Stampede: Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah Rushes To Hospital To See Injured

The Royal Challengers Bengaluru's IPL victory celebrations took a tragic turn when a stampede outside Chinnaswamy Stadium resulted in over 10 fatalities, including a woman and a boy. More than 50 people sustained injuries, with fears of the toll rising. Fans had gathered for the team's victory parade after their IPL 2025 win.

Three individuals were declared dead upon arrival at Bowring Hospital, while four others succumbed at Vydehi Multispecialty Hospital on Vittal Mallya Road. The stampede occurred as hundreds attempted to enter the stadium through a gate near Cubbon Park. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah promptly visited Bowring Hospital following the incident.

Chaos and Emergency Response

Many fans suffered injuries during the stampede at the stadium gates. Some victims received CPR from fellow fans. Police faced challenges transporting victims due to traffic congestion around the stadium. They used police vehicles, ambulances, and private cars to move the injured. Relatives of those who died were seen grieving outside Bowring Hospital.

Police resorted to lathi charges as fans surged into the stadium, with some attempting to climb its walls. One man broke his leg falling from the wall. Bowring Hospital sources reported numerous injured arrivals, losing count of them. Many injured were also taken to Vydehi and nearby hospitals.

Additional Incidents Amid Celebrations

A youth was attacked by unidentified individuals during Tuesday night's celebrations after RCB's IPL trophy win. The victim's throat was slashed with a sharp object in Peenya at midnight but is now out of danger. A viral video shows him explaining he was heading to a Jalahalli bar when attacked without provocation.

Night patrol police used mild lathi charges on men celebrating atop KSRTC buses and trucks near the 8th mile on Bengaluru-Tumakuru road. Fans blocking traffic at Deve Gowda Petrol bunk in Banashankari also faced lathi charges.

Team Arrival and Official Reception

The team arrived in Bengaluru on Wednesday afternoon, greeted by enthusiastic fans lining streets and gathering at the stadium to see stars like Virat Kohli. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar welcomed them at the airport before they met Chief Minister Siddaramaiah at Vidhana Soudha.

"Virat Kohli, from past 18 years, has given his youth, his experience, his love, and his heart (to RCB) and made our state proud," Shivakumar stated. "On behalf of the Karnataka government, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to all of them and wish them continued success."

The Rajat Patidar-led squad received cheers from fans lining roads en route to Siddaramaiah's office. Despite rain disrupting events at Vidhana Soudha where RCB players were honoured by the state government, spirits remained high among supporters.
