A fire broke out in the first floor of MS Ramaiah Memorial Hospital in Bengaluru, near Critical Care Unit (CCU) on Thursday afternoon. Initial reports indicate that at least 12 patients were safely relocated, and the fire has since been fully contained.

The incident occurred around 11:30 AM when smoke was detected in the CCU. Hospital staff promptly evacuated the patients and called in fire tenders to bring the situation under control.

The blaze, reportedly caused by a short circuit in an air conditioning unit, prompted a swift response from emergency services.

MS Ramaiah Hospital CEO, Srinivas Murthy, confirmed that the fire started at around 1:15 p.m. He noted that hospital staff quickly evacuated affected patients and attempted to control the fire using extinguishers. As a precaution, half of the hospital's power supply was cut off. Murthy reassured the public that all safety protocols were followed and emphasized that no VIP patients were affected.

Firefighters arrived shortly after the alarm was raised and have been working to extinguish the flames, which caused significant damage to the third floor. They used water from two fire engines, battling dense smoke and pouring water through broken windows to contain the fire.

Seven cardiac patients were in the ICU when the fire started, but all were safely evacuated without injuries. The hospital has arranged for the patients to be transferred to a nearby building. The situation is now under control, and hospital officials assured that there is no further risk.
