Rahul Gandhi to Lead Protest in Bengaluru on August 4 Over Poll Irregularities

Rahul Gandhi has accused the BJP of election malpractice, highlighting significant irregularities in voter rolls within a Karnataka constituency. He claims that an extensive examination of these records revealed a systematic "vote theft." On August 4, Gandhi plans to lead a protest in Bengaluru, organised by the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC), to address these allegations and present findings to the Election Commission.

Gandhi's accusations stem from a detailed analysis conducted by his party, where they digitised voter lists over six months. This process allegedly uncovered how votes were manipulated, including the involvement of new voters. "We have it in black and white," Gandhi stated on July 23, emphasising the scale of what he termed as "bhayankar chori" or massive theft.

Protest Plans and Political Reactions

The protest in Bengaluru is being coordinated by KPCC, with state leaders finalising arrangements. Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed that Gandhi will meet Election Commission officials after the event. "Rahul Gandhi has raised his voice against irregularities in elections," Parameshwara noted, adding that Gandhi will be in Bengaluru on August 4.

Chief Minister Siddaramaiah supports Gandhi's concerns, alleging that the BJP manipulated electoral processes during recent Lok Sabha elections. He claims Congress workers reported suspicious changes in voter rolls across multiple constituencies. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also investigated Bangalore Rural constituency and found discrepancies in voter lists.

Event Details and Legal Compliance

Gandhi is expected to address party workers at Freedom Park during the protest. However, no processions will occur due to High Court orders prohibiting such gatherings in Bengaluru. The Home Minister assured that the programme would adhere to court directives.

This planned protest coincides with national debates over electoral roll revisions in states like Bihar. It adds pressure on India's electoral system ahead of upcoming assembly elections and the 2026 delimitation process.

The allegations have sparked widespread scrutiny of India's electoral integrity. As political tensions rise, all eyes are on how these claims will influence future elections and potential reforms within the Election Commission.
