Namma Metro Pink Line’s Underground Nagawara Station 98% Ready; Veeranapalya to Get Commercial on Blue Line
Construction of the underground Nagawara station on the Pink Line of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is nearing completion, with nearly 98% of the work finished, officials said. The Pink Line, which runs from Kalena Agrahara to Nagawara, is expected to be completed by December 2026, subject to final-stage clearances.
Nagawara will serve as the interchange between the Pink Line and the upcoming Blue Line from Central Silk Board to Kempegowda International Airport. Once operational, the junction is expected to provide a crucial link for commuters travelling between south Bengaluru and the northern corridor, including the airport and the Hebbal-Manyata tech belt. The interchange is also expected to ease pressure on the heavily congested Outer Ring Road stretch.

BMRCL deputy chief engineer Vinod M Sasalatti said underground works at Nagawara are at a very advanced stage and that construction across the corridor is progressing steadily. The interchange will enable seamless transfers between the two lines, strengthening connectivity in north Bengaluru.
Veeranapalya to Have Three-Level Design
Even as work progresses at Nagawara, BMRCL has introduced a revised design for the Veeranapalya Metro station on the Blue Line, located near Manyata Tech Park.
Unlike most elevated stations, which typically have two levels, Veeranapalya will have a three-level structure. The lowest level has been earmarked for property development, above which will be the concourse and then the platform.
Officials said the additional commercial floor will house shops and other facilities. The design is intended to cater to the large number of employees working in the Manyata tech park and nearby offices. The commercial component is also expected to generate rental income to support Metro operations.
Uneven Progress on Blue Line
On the Blue Line's north-east section, civil works at Horamavu station are reported to be at an advanced stage. However, HRBR Layout station is progressing slower compared to nearby Kalyan Nagar and Kasturinagar stations, which are further along in construction.
With the Pink Line nearing readiness at Nagawara and Blue Line stations advancing in phases, BMRCL officials said the focus remains on strengthening interchange facilities and improving cross-city connectivity. Once both corridors are operational, commuters from south and central Bengaluru will be able to reach north Bengaluru and the airport with fewer transfers and reduced travel time.
