ORR Traffic Chokes Bengaluru's IT Corridor; Marshalls Deployed at 25 Key Junctions
In a significant step toward managing the worsening traffic situation on Bengaluru's Outer Ring Road (ORR), the Outer Ring Road Companies Association (ORRCA) has deployed ORRCA Traffic Marshalls at 25 key junctions between KR Puram and Central Silk Board. This move, done in collaboration with the Bengaluru Traffic Police, aims to restore smooth traffic flow and safety in the city's IT corridor.

As Moneycontrol earlier reported, traffic congestion on this 17-km stretch has surged by 45% in June 2025 compared to the same month last year. The midweek peak, especially Wednesdays, saw congestion levels rise 127%, with queue lengths crossing 2,200 km.
Why the Sudden Traffic Surge?
The spike has been attributed to:
The return of mandatory office attendance post-Covid.
The bike taxi ban effective from June 16, forcing commuters to shift to private vehicles.
A surge in auto fares due to increased demand.
The Bengaluru Traffic Police and ORRCA have been analyzing daily vehicle entry data from 26 major tech parks, confirming this dramatic uptick.
ORRCA Traffic Marshalls: Clearing the Way
In response, ORRCA has launched a ground-level traffic management initiative, with uniformed Traffic Marshalls deployed at high-congestion junctions like:
- Bellandur
- Marathahalli
- Kadubeesanahalli
- Ecospace
- Agara
- Devarabeesanahalli
The goal is to:
Streamline traffic movement
Reduce illegal parking
Support one-way enforcement
Assist Bangalore Traffic Police at hotspots
The marshalls are also tasked with supporting lane-based driving, coordinating with real-time congestion updates.
ORR Tech Corridor Under Pressure
The ORR stretch houses over 500 companies and nearly 9.5 lakh employees, contributing to 32% of Bengaluru's IT revenue ($22 billion). With most firms now asking employees to work from office at least three days a week, the pressure on infrastructure is mounting.
"The shift from private to public transport is the goal," said Manas Das, ORRCA President, in the Moneycontrol report. "The upcoming Blue Line Metro, expected by September 2026, could transform commuting patterns."
What's Next?
Urban planners and experts are urging:
- Faster rollout of the Blue Line Metro
- More BMTC bus services
- Shuttle links between metro stations and tech parks
- Strict parking enforcement
- Revival of hybrid work models
The Bangalore Traffic Police is also experimenting with staggered office timings and junction redesigns to ease the situation.
With ORRCA stepping in with on-ground traffic marshalls and real-time data analysis, Bengaluru's tech corridor may finally see some relief. But lasting change will require continued collaboration, public transport integration, and support from IT firms and employees alike.
