Om Prakash Murder: Was It Self-Defense or Cold-Blooded Murder? Ex-Karnataka DGP's Wife Makes Confession
The sudden and suspicious death of Om Prakash, former Director General of Police (DGP) of Karnataka, has left the state in shock. The retired IPS officer was found dead at his residence in Bengaluru's upscale HSR Layout, lying in a pool of blood with visible injuries. Initial reports indicated that a sharp weapon may have been used in the attack, resulting in fatal blood loss.
Now, in a stunning revelation, Om Prakash's wife, Pallavi, has confessed to his murder during police interrogation. Her chilling admission has unraveled a disturbing tale of domestic conflict, psychological strain, and a violent end.

According to investigators, Pallavi revealed that a heated domestic dispute had been escalating for over a week. During questioning, she told police officials that Om Prakash would frequently brandish a gun and threaten both her and their daughter, Kriti. "Every day brought new fights. He would pull out a gun and threaten to kill us. My daughter and I lived in constant fear," she reportedly said.
On the day of the incident, a confrontation turned violent. Pallavi claimed that Om Prakash allegedly attempted to attack them, prompting a desperate attempt at self-defense. She and Kriti, in a coordinated act, used salt powder, cooking oil, and a kitchen knife to subdue him. "We sprinkled salt powder in his eyes, poured cooking oil over him so he couldn't move, tied him up with a rope, and stabbed him," Pallavi confessed.
The murder took place on the ground floor of their three-storey home. After the incident, police were informed and arrived at the scene to find Om Prakash dead. Pallavi was taken into custody shortly after the case was registered.
While Pallavi has admitted to the crime, the police are still investigating the role of their daughter Kriti in the murder. Deputy Commissioner of Police Sa. Ra Fatima is leading the probe, and both women are currently being interrogated.
Forensic teams recovered two knives and a bottle containing cooking oil from the crime scene. These items are undergoing fingerprint analysis to help piece together the sequence of events.
A post-mortem examination is scheduled for today, which may offer further clarity on the cause of death and provide additional evidence to support the ongoing investigation.
Who Was Om Prakash?
Om Prakash, a 1981-batch IPS officer hailing from Champaran in Bihar, served in the police force for over three decades. He held a master's degree in Geology and began his career as an additional superintendent of police in Harapanahalli.
Over the years, he held several key postings, including as ASP in Ballari and SP in Shivamogga, Uttara Kannada, and Chikkamagaluru. His career also included tenures in the state Lokayukta, Fire and Emergency Services, and the Crime Investigation Department (CID).
He was appointed as Karnataka's police chief on March 1, 2015, and retired from service in 2017.
Sources close to the former DGP revealed that he had previously voiced concerns about potential threats to his life. Investigators are now looking into the possibility of a family feud over property playing a role in his death.
The case remains under active investigation, with police not ruling out any angles at this stage.
