Om Prakash Murder Case: Son Pins Blame on Mother and Sister in Ex-Karnataka DGP's Killing

A day after the murder of former Karnataka DGP Om Prakash, his wife, Pallavi, was arrested by HSR Layout police on Monday.

An FIR was lodged after a complaint from Om Prakash's son, Karthikesh (38), who named both mother Pallavi and his sister, Kriti, as suspects in the case. The two women have been charged under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita, 2023, for murder.

While Pallavi has been arrested due to substantial evidence linking her to the crime, police are continuing their investigation into Kriti's involvement, though she has not yet been arrested. Kriti was detained and questioned on Monday. Pallavi was escorted to the crime scene for a mahazar, after which she was presented before a magistrate and remanded into judicial custody. The investigation has since been handed over to the Central Crime Branch (CCB).

A Violent Argument

Preliminary investigations suggest that the fatal incident stemmed from an argument between Om Prakash and Pallavi during lunch at their HSR Layout residence. The argument turned violent, with Pallavi allegedly using a kitchen knife to stab her husband multiple times and breaking a glass bottle on him.

Pallavi reportedly called a friend, the wife of another retired IPS officer, saying she had "finally killed the monster." This friend immediately alerted the police. Kriti was present in the house at the time of the incident.

Om Prakash Son's Complaint

In his complaint, Karthikesh revealed that both Pallavi and Kriti had been battling depression and frequently argued with his father. He believes they might have been involved in his father's death.

Karthikesh also mentioned that Om Prakash had been living with his sister, Sarita Kumari, for the past week because of death threats from Pallavi. On April 18, Kriti allegedly compelled Om Prakash to return to their family home.

It was also reported that Pallavi had poured toilet cleaner into Om Prakash's ear a week earlier.

On the afternoon of April 20, while Karthikesh was at work in Domlur, a neighbor informed him of his father's murder. When he arrived home, he discovered knives and a broken bottle scattered on the floor, along with his father's lifeless body. The police were already at the scene.

Om Prakash's funeral was held at the electric crematorium in Wilson Garden on Monday.
