NGEF And Baiyapanahalli Site In Race For Bengaluru's Sky-High Observation Tower

Bengaluru is gearing up to transform its skyline with the construction of India's tallest observation tower, confirmed by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP). Rising to an impressive 250 meters, this towering structure aims not only to showcase the city's beauty but also to serve as a bustling center for commercial activities.

The decision to build this iconic structure began last October after extensive discussions involving Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, and government officials. Now, the BBMP is taking charge of this ambitious project, starting with the crucial step of preparing a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

While the actual construction hasn't started, the BBMP is actively engaged in discussions and is currently focused on crafting the DPR. This phase involves selecting a suitable site between NGEF areas in Yeshavantpur or Baiyapanahalli for the Skydeck.

To ensure a comprehensive report, the BBMP is conducting site inspections alongside DPR preparation, estimating costs, and the timeline for completion. These are crucial aspects being incorporated into the DPR.

Beyond being a panoramic viewing tower, the Skydeck is envisioned as a vibrant commercial center. The DPR aims to outline conditions for the construction firm, specifying permissible commercial ventures like parking facilities, museums, restaurants, cinemas, and shopping malls within the structure.

A committee comprising five officers, led by the BBMP Chief Commissioner, has been formed to oversee the accuracy and completeness of the DPR. This committee includes members from the Finance and Planning Department and key engineers to supervise the contracting agency's work.

Once finished, the 250-meter Skydeck will overshadow existing prominent constructions in India, such as the 323-meter Rameshwar TV Tower in Tamil Nadu and Gujarat's 182-meter Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel's Ekata statue. What sets the Bengaluru Skydeck apart is not just its unprecedented height but also its commitment to providing public access, making it the tallest observation tower in the country.
