Nandi Hills to Remain Closed for 4 Days; District Administration Issues Travel Advisory
Nandi Hills, one of Karnataka's most popular tourist destinations, will be closed to the public from June 16 to June 20, 2025. The temporary restriction comes as the Karnataka Cabinet is scheduled to hold a high-level meeting atop the scenic hills on June 19.
The Chickballapur district administration, under whose jurisdiction Nandi Hills falls, issued an official order announcing that public access will be restricted starting from 6:00 PM on June 16 until 5:00 AM on June 20. The move aims to ensure security and smooth logistics as key government leaders, including the Chief Minister, Deputy Chief Minister, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs, and other officials, are expected to attend the meeting.

Nandi Hills sees heavy tourist footfall, especially on weekends and public holidays, with an estimated 16,000 to 18,000 visitors, 3,000 to 3,500 two-wheelers, and 1,500 to 1,700 cars making their way to the summit. Even on weekdays, the number of visitors ranges between 5,000 and 6,000, along with 1,000 to 1,500 two-wheelers and 500 to 700 cars.
The administration noted that the only access road to the hilltop is narrow with sharp curves, making it difficult to regulate heavy traffic during a high-profile event. Officials cited safety concerns as the main reason for the temporary closure, to avoid any accidents or congestion during the Cabinet meeting.
The government order has also suspended advance bookings for guest houses and accommodations located atop Nandi Hills during this period.
Travelers and tourists planning a visit to Nandi Hills are advised to reschedule their trips. Regular access to the destination is expected to resume from 5:00 AM on June 20, 2025.
