Nandan Nilekani claims to be the "man for change" in Namma Bengaluru
Bangalore, March 14: "Bangalore is my turf and I want to do something about this city." These are the words of the freshman who entered into politics formally on Sunday.
Nandan Nilekani, who officially joined Congress party, will be contesting from Bangalore South constituency and will be standing against BJP's Ananth Kumar, who has been the MP here since last five terms.
During media interaction, Nilekani asserted that "Time has come for a change in Bangalore and with people's consent and support, I want to bring that change."
Nandan Nilekani called the AAP an agitation party
On being asked about standing up for elections through a party that is beginning to be known as the synonym of corruption, Nilekani said that standing away and blaming corruption will not help as it is deep-rooted. Corruption is pervalant across all political parties and government. "Good people need to enter politics and cleanse the system," he said.
On being asked about the performance of Aam Aadmi Party, he said that though he agrees that the party has brought in a change through their campaigning and funding, he does not believe that they will do any good. "AAP is an agitation party which stands up on dharnas every now and then."
When asked about competing with a five terms constant winner Ananth Kumar from BJP, Nilekani says that Bangalore needs a change and people are coming out in search of a new face to represent them. "My style is to work in the trenches. I am a problem solver. I want to create opportunities for the hyper-aspirational youth out there along with quality education." Nilekani also added that he has visited most of Bangalore South and "the message is loud and clear that people want change."
He also said that he is hundred per cent sure that he will win the elections. "You want to bet one this?" he asked the reporters.
Nilekani does not think that he will be anywhere affected by the corruption tag of Congress government. He says that it is easy to stay away from all this but if people don't enter politics for the fear of becoming corrupt, there will be no reforms. "That is what is driving me into this. I want to make a change," he said.
Nilekani submitted his resignation as the UIDAI chairman to the Prime Minister if India, Manmohan Singh, on Thursday.
