Namma Metro Yellow Line Gears Up For Launch In December, CMRS Testing Soon

Excitement is brewing in Bengaluru as the driverless trains on 19-km-long Yellow Line (RV Road - Bommasandra), that connects Electronics City, the tech hub, prepares for launch. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is making significant strides towards opening this crucial segment, offering a much-needed boost to the city's public transport system.

CMRS Inspection Scheduled

Namma Metro Yellow Line Gears Up For Launch In December CMRS Testing Soon

The Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) is scheduled to conduct a thorough inspection of the Yellow Line by the end of October. This inspection ensures the line meets all safety regulations before passenger operations commence.

Titagarh to supply the first train for Namma metro by December

The BMRCL is expecting the delivery of six new trains from Kolkata-based Titagarh Rail Systems Limited (TRSL) by December. These additional trains will significantly enhance the capacity of the Yellow Line, catering to the ever-growing ridership in Bengaluru, India's IT hub.

Embracing Technology: Driverless Trains on the Horizon

The Yellow Line is at the forefront of technological advancements. Earlier this year, a driverless train system developed by CRRC (China) was successfully introduced on the line. This marks a significant step towards a more modern and efficient metro network, particularly for the busy route leading to Electronic City.

The collaboration between Titagarh and CRRC goes further. A total of 14 train sets (84 coaches) equipped with cutting-edge Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) technology are scheduled to arrive from August onwards. This builds upon the success of the initial prototypes tested last year and promises a smoother and more efficient passenger experience.

Rigorous Testing for Seamless Operations

The BMRCL is currently putting the Yellow Line through its paces with comprehensive trials using a CRRC train. These tests cover 36 different aspects, including the integrity of the tracks and the functionality of the signaling systems. To ensure a seamless launch, at least three trains are required for these trials. The timely arrival of additional trains by September-October is crucial to finalize testing and guarantee a safe public opening.

December Launch and Enhanced Commuter Convenience

Following the CMRS inspection and necessary approvals, the Yellow Line is expected to begin regular operations by December. Initially, six trains will be deployed, offering a frequency of one train every 15 minutes. This will significantly improve connectivity and convenience for commuters, especially those traveling to and from the key technology and industrial hubs along this route.

The BMRCL is not neglecting other lines. To address the existing train shortage on the Purple and Green lines, CRRC is set to deliver a prototype train with DTG (Distance to Go) technology in August. This will be followed by 20 more DTG trains by November 2025, further streamlining metro services across the entire Bengaluru network.
