Namma Metro Yellow Line from RV Road to Bommasandra May Start Limited Rides This June
The Namma Metro Yellow Line could begin limited operations as early as June 2025, depending on the timely arrival of additional train sets and required clearances. This update was shared by Maheshwar Rao, Managing Director of Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), during the launch of the "STAMP: Nudging Commuter Behaviour" initiative at Electronics City on Friday.
Rao stated that the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) must approve the line before operations can commence. "We're awaiting the dispatch of the third train set, and we expect more clarity by the end of this month," he added. BMRCL plans to initially operate with three train sets.

While the 19.15-kilometre stretch from R.V. Road to Bommasandra has been structurally ready for several months, its opening has been held up primarily due to delays in receiving the driverless metro trains. The first six-coach train, manufactured in China, reached the Hebbagodi depot on February 14 this year.
Full-scale operations are expected between August and September 2025, once all necessary rolling stock is in place. The Yellow Line, with its 16 elevated stations, will improve access to major IT hubs like Infosys and Biocon, and enhance connectivity between the Green Line at R.V. Road and the under-construction Pink Line at Jayadeva Hospital Station.
At the same event, BMRCL joined hands with BMTC, Electronics City Industries Association (ELCIA), Toyota Mobility Foundation (TMF), and WRI India to promote the "STAMP" initiative. The goal of the programme is to encourage employees in Electronics City to shift from private vehicles to public transportation, by applying behavioural science and smart technology.
The STAMP programme, which began in Bengaluru in 2017, is now operational in six other Indian cities-Hyderabad, Kochi, Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Delhi. According to a press release, the initiative has facilitated over 50,000 last-mile metro trips and saved 240,000 passenger minutes so far.
"With the upcoming launch of the Yellow Line, we expect a noticeable drop in road traffic as more people switch to the metro," Rao said. He called on companies in the Electronics City area to support the transition by encouraging their workforce to use public transport and offer creative mobility solutions tailored to their commuting patterns.
