Namma Metro Update: Green Line Extension Opens For Public – Check Routes, Stations

The Namma Metro Green Line extension connecting Nagasandra to Madavara will commence commercial operations today (November 7), officials have announced. This 3.14 km stretch, part of Phase-2 of Bengaluru's metro expansion project, aims to improve connectivity and ease the commute for thousands in the area.

After a mandatory inspection by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (Southern Circle) on October 3, 2024, the line was granted clearance for operations. Final test runs were carried out earlier this week, enabling today's opening.

Namma Metro s Green Line

On November 6, 2024, Karnataka's Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, accompanied by Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, conducted a ceremonial ride from Yeshwanthpur Metro Station to Madavara, marking this important milestone.

Bengaluru Metro Green Line Extension Route and Stations

The extended Green Line connects Nagasandra to Madavara (BIEC), spanning 3.14 km. It includes three new stations:

  • Manjunathanagar
  • Chikkabidarakallu
  • Madavara (BIEC)

This elevated section follows the National Highway and intersects the NICE Road at two locations, improving access to important parts of the city.

"This is the shortest extension of Phase 1 within the Phase 2 project. With its completion, all extensions of Phase 1 under Phase 2 are now finished," the BMRCL announced.

Cost and Funding

The extension was completed at a cost of ₹1,168 crore, including ₹152 crore for land acquisition. With this addition, Bengaluru's metro network now spans 76.95 km with 69 stations. The Green Line now covers 33.46 km with 31 stations, solidifying its role as a backbone of the city's transit system.

The new extension is expected to attract an additional 44,000 daily commuters, particularly benefiting those traveling to the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), a hub for large-scale conferences and exhibitions. This connectivity is anticipated to reduce travel time by up to 30% for commuters heading to the BIEC and nearby areas.

The completion of this extension finalizes all Phase-1 expansions under Phase-2, marking significant progress in the state government's plan to enhance urban mobility and alleviate Bengaluru's traffic congestion. The metro expansion aligns with the city's commitment to reduce carbon emissions and promote sustainable public transit.

In the coming months, additional developments in Namma metro Phase 2 are anticipated to broaden the city's metro network, establishing Namma Metro as a vital component of daily life for the residents of Bengaluru.
