Namma Metro Services to Be Temporarily Suspended on Purple Line This Sunday
Namma Metro, the lifeline of Bengaluru, plays a crucial role in facilitating fast and comfortable travel for lakhs of commuters every day. However, metro services on the Purple Line will face a temporary disruption this Sunday, June 22, due to scheduled maintenance work.
According to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL), maintenance will be carried out between Trinity Circle and Halasuru stations. As a result, metro services between MG Road and Baiyappanahalli will remain suspended from 7 AM to 9 AM on Sunday.

Despite this disruption:
- Services will run from Baiyappanahalli to Kadugodi as usual.
- Trains will operate from Chalaghatta to MG Road without interruption.
- Only the stretch between MG Road and Baiyappanahalli will be temporarily non-operational.
- Services on the Green Line will continue as normal.
BMRCL Bags National Award for Innovative Financing
In a proud moment for Bengaluru, BMRCL has been honoured at the national level ETI Infra Rail Show and Awards with the recognition for having the most advanced financing approach for MRTS/RRTS projects.
The award acknowledges BMRCL's proactive strategies to generate revenue beyond fare collection. These include:
- Long-term commercial leasing of metro properties
- Station naming rights
- Creative advertising collaborations
- Public-private partnerships, such as those with Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL)
These forward-thinking initiatives have played a crucial role in supporting metro expansion and maintenance.
Metro Ridership Breaks Records
BMRCL also reported a significant spike in passenger numbers earlier this month. On June 4, over 9.66 lakh commuters used the metro-nearly three times the usual number.
Breakdown of June 4 ridership:
4,78,334 passengers travelled on the Purple Line
2,84,674 passengers used the Green Line, from Madavara to Silk Institute
2,03,724 passengers boarded from Majestic Station alone
These numbers reflect the increasing reliance of Bengalureans on Namma Metro for their daily commute.
