Namma Metro’s Green Line Extension Inches Closer To Opening After CMRS Clearance On October 3-4
The statutory inspection of the 3.14-km extension of Namma Metro's Green Line is set to take place on October 3 and 4.
The inspection will be conducted by the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), A M Chowdhary, and his team to determine if the line is ready for public use. Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had initially requested the inspection on August 7, after which the CMRS sought clarifications and documentation, which the BMRCL provided, a senior official stated.

On September 26, the CMRS informed the BMRCL that the inspection would occur on October 3 and 4. A senior BMRCL official confirmed this development and noted that, pending CMRS clearance-which typically takes 8-10 days-the line could open by mid-October. The inspection will cover tracks, signalling systems, traction, viaducts, girders, trainsets, and passenger amenities at the stations.
The stretch, which includes three elevated stations at Manjunath Nagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara, has faced significant delays, making it the slowest project in Namma Metro's history. Initially awarded to Simplex Infrastructures Limited in February 2017 with a 27-month completion deadline, the project has taken over 91 months due to land acquisition challenges and financial issues.
Signalling tests began on the extension on August 12, followed by trial runs on August 17. The opening of this segment will expand Bengaluru's metro network to 76.95 km, helping alleviate traffic on the busy Tumakuru Road.
