Namma Metro Records 9.2 Lakh Ridership Thanks To Diljit Dosanjh's Bengaluru Concert Buzz
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) recently achieved a remarkable milestone in its operational history, recording an all-time high ridership of over 9.2 lakh passengers in a single day. This significant number of commuters chose the metro on a day that coincided with the highly anticipated Dil-Luminati concert by Diljit Dosanjh at the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). The surge in metro use not only reflects the city's growing reliance on public transportation but also highlights the metro's crucial role in supporting large-scale events and easing traffic congestion in Bengaluru.
A spokesperson for BMRCL attributed this record-breaking ridership to several factors, including the popularity of the concert and the convenience offered by the metro for concert-goers. Specifically, the Green Line’s extension to Madavara (BIEC) facilitated easy access for thousands of music fans attending the event.

"With the Green Line connecting to Madavara (BIEC), thousands of music lovers who gathered at the concert had access to the Metro. This, coupled with the weekend ahead and people traveling to their hometowns, likely led to the surge in ridership on Friday," the spokesperson was quoted by the Indian Express. This statement underscores the metro's capacity to handle increased passenger volumes during major events and peak travel times.
Data shared by BMRCL on X revealed the distribution of riders across different lines, with the Purple Line (Line 1) carrying about 4.39 lakh passengers and the Green Line (Line 2) servicing 3.12 lakh riders. The Nadaprabhu Kempagowda Interchange Station alone saw 1.67 lakh commuters, playing a significant role in this unprecedented ridership. These figures not only showcase the metro's efficiency in managing high volumes of passengers but also its importance as a backbone for urban mobility in Bengaluru.
This new record surpasses the previous highs achieved by the Bengaluru Metro, including the 9.17 lakh riders on August 14, 2024, and the earlier records of 8.26 lakh and 8.25 lakh passengers on August 6, 2024, and Independence Day 2022, respectively. These milestones highlight the growing preference for the metro among Bengaluru residents as a reliable and efficient mode of transportation, capable of easing the city's notorious traffic congestion.
In anticipation of high traffic volumes due to the concert, the Bengaluru traffic police had issued an advisory encouraging attendees to use public transportation to reach the BIEC. This proactive measure further emphasizes the critical role of the metro system in managing city traffic and promoting sustainable urban transportation solutions.
As Bengaluru continues to grow and host large-scale events, the metro's role in facilitating efficient urban mobility becomes increasingly vital. This record-setting day not only marks a significant achievement for BMRCL but also demonstrates the metro's capacity to support the city's transportation needs while contributing to a more sustainable and congestion-free urban environment.
