Namma Metro Purple Line: PM Modi To Dedicate Bengaluru Metro East West Corridor To The Nation
Prime Minister Narendra Modi formally dedicated two stretches of Namma Metro's Purple Line to the nation, bringing great convenience to the people of Bengaluru. These two metro sections, Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapuram and Kengeri to Challaghatta, have been in public service since October 9, 2023.
The addition of these vital sections expands the operational network of the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) from 69.66 km to 73.81 km, boasting a total of 66 metro stations. During morning peak hours, the operational headway on the East-West Corridor will be 10 minutes from Whitefield (Kadugodi) to Patandur Agrahara, 5 minutes from Patandur Agrahara to Mysore Road, and just 3 minutes from Nadaprabhu Kempegowda Station - Majestic to MG Road. The stretch from Mysore Road to Challaghatta will also maintain a 10-minute headway.

These metro rail services on both sections will commence at 05:00 hrs, with the last train departing from Whitefield (Kadugodi) at 22.45 hrs and from other terminal stations at 23:05 hrs.
Prime Minister said the Metro rail services from Baiyappanahalli to Krishnarajapura, and Kengeri to Challaghatta legs of Bangalore Metro Purple Line will improve connectivity and benefit lakhs of commuters.
He was speaking after virtually dedicating to the nation the two stretches of east-west corridor of Bangalore Metro, from Sahibabad in Uttar Pradesh, where he addressed a rally after inaugurating the 17-km priority section of the country's first Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridor.
''The two lines of the Bengaluru Metro Rail will improve connectivity. It is expected that eight lakh people travel every day. I congratulate the people of Karnataka at the launch of the Metro rail line,'' the prime minister said.
On weekdays, the Namma Metro recorded an impressive count of around 6.50 lakh passengers traveling between KR Puram to Byappanahalli and Kengeri to Challaghatta. With the opening of these two extensions, it is anticipated that this number may rise to around 7.50 lakh passengers daily.
The commencement of metro services on the Purple Line extensions is a significant relief for the residents of Bengaluru, as it finally provides seamless Metro connectivity along this route. The extension of metro rail services from Byappanahalli to KR Puram holds particular importance, offering uninterrupted transport access to Whitefield, which has evolved into a major IT-BT hub.
