Namma Metro Phase 3 New Lines Move Closer To Reality With DPR Approval
In good news for commuters in Bengaluru, the Public Investment Board (PIB) of the union government gave a green signal to the Detailed Project Report (DPR). The Phase 3 project, which will be 44.65 kilometers long, will feature two new lines: JP Nagar 4th Phase to Kempapura and Hosahalli to Kadabagere.
The first line will cover the western part of the Outer Ring Road, with 31 stations, while the second line will run along Magadi Road, with nine stations. A senior official from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) confirmed that the PIB has cleared the DPR, but noted that the union cabinet's approval is still pending. However, it is expected to be granted soon.

Pre-construction activities have already begun for the Outer Ring Road line, including utility shifting, tree enumeration, and land acquisition. One notable change for this phase is that three-coach trains will operate on the 12.5-kilometer Hosahalli-Kadabagere line, compared to six coaches on existing lines. This was a condition set by the union government.
However, all nine stations on this line will be equipped with standard 135-meter-long platforms, allowing for potential future upgrades to six-coach trains if needed.
Authorities have set a deadline to complete the Namma Metro Phase 3 project by 2028, with an estimated cost of ₹15,611 crore, according to the news agency PTI.
