Namma Metro Phase 2 Update: Siemens To Handle Major Electrification On 73.921 Km Track
Siemens Limited has secured an order from Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to electrify the Bengaluru Namma Metro Phase 2 project, spanning 73.921 km, thereby promoting sustainable public transportation in the city. This contract is part of a consortium that includes Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL), with the total order value approximately Rs. 766 crore. Siemens' portion of the consortium is estimated to be worth Rs. 558 crore.
The construction work of Bangalore Metro Phase 2A and 2B under Phase 2 Project is expected to be completed by June 2026.

Siemens will design, construct, implement, and test rail electrification technologies, including a digital solution featuring SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems. The project will connect the Bengaluru Airport terminal to Central Silk Board via KR Puram and include two depots and 30 stations over a distance of 58 kilometers. With this order, Siemens is now involved in 11 of the 20 cities with a metro system.
Gunjan Vakharia, Head of Mobility Business at Siemens Limited, stated that the implementation of Phase 2 will significantly contribute to sustainable urban development in Bengaluru, meeting the needs of commuters and Metro Rail authorities.
Construction on Phase 2's first new section (Mysore Road - Pattanagere, Reach-2A of Purple Line) began in September 2015. Of the 73.921 km of new track, 13.885 km will be underground, while the remainder will be elevated.
This phase involves constructing two new lines on standard gauge tracks and extending both lines built in Phase 1 in all four directions.
