Namma Metro On Tumakuru Road: Three New Stations To Benefit North Bengaluru Commuters
The eagerly anticipated extension of the Green Line of Namma Metro in north Bengaluru is set to bring relief to commuters along the congested Tumakuru Road. Stretching 3.7 kilometers from Nagasandra to Madavara, this new metro line will introduce three stations: Manjunathnagar, Chikkabidarakallu, and Madavara. With this extension, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) aims to ease traffic bottlenecks and enhance connectivity.
Recently, the Commissioner for Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) granted clearance for the metro line's commercial operations, with all tests being successfully completed. BMRCL officials are now eagerly awaiting a formal inauguration date, which is expected to be announced soon.

For the residents along Tumakuru Road, the completion of this Namma metro Green line is a significant improvement. It is expected to alleviate the heavy traffic experienced during peak times and on weekends, leading to shorter travel durations and reduced vehicle congestion. The Green line extension will connect key areas to the Bengaluru metro network, notably benefitting daily commuters and improving access to major venues, like the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), which is strategically located along the route.
Namma Metro Green Line Extension: Launch Date Awaited
Although all construction and safety inspections have been successfully completed, the BMRCL is now waiting for the Urban Development Department to confirm the launch date. Following an inspection of the line by the Railway Safety Commissioner on August 3, the final approval for operations was granted on August 4.
The metro extension project has faced delays due to various challenges, including land acquisition issues and disruptions from the COVID-19 pandemic. Originally projected to take a shorter time, these factors extended the timeline by nearly five years. However, with the obstacles now resolved, BMRCL is positioned to enhance connectivity to areas like Madavara, Chikkabidarakallu, and Jindal Nagar, which previously struggled with limited access to public transport.
