Nagasandra-Madavara And RV Road-Bommasandra Stretches Of Bengaluru Namma Metro To Open By Year-End
In a promising development for Namma Metro commuters, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (BMRCL) is actively progressing towards the launch of two new lines under the phase-2 project by the year's end. The corporation aims to commence operations on the Nagasandra to Madavara (3.14 km) and RV Road Metro Station to Bommasandra (19.15 km) lines by September or October of this year.
Initiation of work on these lines was slated two years ago, but the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic intervened. Additionally, technical challenges and land acquisition hurdles further impeded progress. Now, with these obstacles overcome, BMRCL is optimistic about inaugurating services by the end of the current year, as construction advances at a steady pace.

The Nagasandra-Madawara line, spanning 3.14 kilometers, is nearing completion, with 95% of the work accomplished. Anticipated to become operational by September, this line will facilitate commuters traveling towards Nelamangala and the Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC), potentially alleviating traffic congestion on Tumakuru Road.
Yashavanth Chavan, chief engineer (rolling stock) and chief public relations officer of BMRCL, affirmed, "We had to erect two composite girders on the line due to the presence of the NICE Road. After the issues were sorted out, track works, electrical and signaling works are going on. We will be opening this line later this year."
The RV Road-Bommasandra line, executed at a cost of Rs 4,255 crore, is expected to accommodate a daily ridership of 3.5 lakh passengers upon completion. With 95% of the construction work already finished, trial runs are scheduled for July or August. This line will link Ragi Gudda, Jayadeva Hospital, BTM Layout, Central Silk Board, Bommanahalli, Hosur Road, and Bommasandra.
Moreover, the RV Road-Bommasandra line will introduce driverless trains, with special tracks being laid accordingly. A prototype train set has arrived at the Chennai port from China and is slated to reach Bengaluru by February 18. Following a series of technical tests at the Hebbagodi depot spanning five months, reports will be submitted to the rail safety commissioner for clearance from the railway board. Once approvals are obtained, the trains will undergo speed tests before being commissioned for commercial operations.
Chavan elaborated, "The RV Road-Bommasandra line spans 19 kilometers and comprises 15 stations. All civil and track works have been completed. The first prototype of the driverless train has arrived at the Chennai port and is awaiting Customs clearance. The technical tests will require a minimum of five months. After the commissioner of rail safety gives final clearance, it can be opened for commercial operations."
