In a shocking incident, Kriti Kumari, a 24-year-old woman from Bihar, was brutally stabbed to death in her paying guest (PG) accommodation in Bengaluru's Koramangala. The police have arrested the accused, Abhishek Ghosi, 25, who had been harassing Kriti's friend.

According to reports, Abhishek had a dispute with his girlfriend, and Kriti intervened to protect her friend. However, Abhishek's girlfriend distanced herself from him and moved to the PG accommodation, where Kriti was staying. Abhishek, a jobless BSc graduate, had been harassing her for daily needs.

Meanwhile, the police recovered the knife used in the alleged murder and took Abhishek to the PG for a mahazar (spot inspection) on Sunday. During interrogation, he confessed to the crime and revealed that he had disposed of the knife near the PG accommodation.

Kriti Kumari was living in a third-floor room at Bhargavi Staying Homes for ladies in Venkatareddy Layout, Koramangala's sixth block. Kumari, an MBA graduate, had been working as a business development associate for a project-based learning platform at a developers firm since January. She completed her MBA from a business school in Electronics City and had been residing in Bengaluru since 2021.

At approximately 11:15 pm on Tuesday, Ghosi entered the Bhargavi Staying Homes for Ladies in Venkatareddy Layout, ascended to Kriti's third-floor room, and knocked on her door.

When Kriti opened the door, he forced his way inside and launched a violent attack. Kriti fought back and tried to escape, but the assailant pursued her, stabbing her multiple times before slashing her throat. He then fled to his hometown in Madhya Pradesh.

Abhishek was arrested in his hometown of Raisen, Madhya Pradesh, after he switched off his phone and went into hiding following the murder on July 23. The police used technical assistance to track his movement and apprehended him before he could reach his home from the railway station.

"This was a challenging case as none of the involved parties were local or knew much about each other," said a police officer. "We took the case as a challenge and nabbed Abhishek. The identification parade will be done soon, and more details will emerge during interrogation."

Abhishek's parents and elder brother reside in their native place. They mentioned that after his girlfriend moved to the PG, he returned home but came back to Bengaluru a month ago, attempting to reconcile with her. Despite visiting the PG a few times, she refused to take him back.

The police are expected to conduct an identification parade soon to gather more evidence.
