Money, Betrayal, and a Hidden Illness: Why a Bengaluru Doctor Allegedly Killed His Wife

A Bengaluru doctor, Mahendra Reddy, was detained on Tuesday for allegedly killing his wife, Dr. Kruthika Reddy. A recent viscera report contradicted Mahendra's claim of a "natural death," revealing that Kruthika died from an anesthesia overdose. The overdose led to respiratory failure, and it is alleged that Mahendra administered the dose while claiming to provide medical care.

Mahendra's arrest followed the forensic findings that reclassified the case as murder. He was charged under Section 103 (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Despite this, Mahendra maintains his innocence, insisting that his wife's death was due to natural causes.

Frustration Over Wife's Illness

According to police reports, Mahendra was frustrated upon discovering Kruthika's long-standing gastric and metabolic disorders. This information had been withheld by her family before their marriage in May 2024. The police believe this frustration may have contributed to the tragic event.

The authorities revealed that Mahendra visited Kruthika under the guise of providing medical care. During these visits, he allegedly administered intravenous injections containing anesthetic agents over two days until she lost consciousness.

Financial Demands and Family Tensions

Kruthika's father reported to Marathahalli police that Mahendra frequently demanded money from them. Muni Reddy stated in his complaint that Mahendra wanted funds to build a private hospital for Kruthika, but the family couldn't meet his financial demands.

"He wanted me to build a private hospital for Kritika, and I refused, stating I did not have that much money. Meanwhile, Mahendra was ignoring my daughter while growing close to another woman. He treated her gastrointestinal issues by administering liquids intravenously," he stated in the complaint.

Family's Plea for Justice

Dr. Kruthika's father expressed deep sorrow over the loss of his daughter and called for justice. "Dr. Kruthika trusted her husband completely she believed in his love and in his profession. But the same medical knowledge that should have saved lives was used to destroy hers. Our family seeks the harshest punishment for this premeditated act and justice for our daughter, whose loss is not just personal but a loss to society," he added further as per news agency ANI.
