Mid-Air Scare: 22-Year-Old Tried To Open Emergency Exit On Kolkata To Bengaluru Flight

A 22-year-old from West Bengal faced serious trouble at Bengaluru's Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) after allegedly attempting to open a flight's emergency exit mid-air.

The incident occurred on an IndiGo flight from Kolkata to Bengaluru, where vigilant crew members promptly handed over the individual to airport security upon landing, as reported by TOI.

The accused, identified as Koushik Karan, is now facing charges under section 336 of the Indian Penal Code for endangering others' safety.

Seated near the emergency exit in seat 18, Karan's attempt to tamper with the door was quickly thwarted by alert cabin crew members before any harm could be done.

During questioning, Karan claimed ignorance, stating it was his first flight and he was unaware of the protocol. He insisted his actions were unintentional, merely trying to stand up by holding onto the door. Karan, a first-year MCA student, was en route to Bengaluru to visit relatives.

This incident is not an isolated one. Last year, a 40-year-old, reportedly under the influence, faced a similar situation after allegedly attempting to open an emergency door on a Delhi-Bengaluru IndiGo flight.
