LPG Crunch Pushes Cylinder Waiting Period Beyond 30 Days In Cities

Domestic LPG cylinder deliveries are slowing sharply across India, with households in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Gurugram and Kolkata reporting unusually long waiting periods for refills. What was once a routine one to three day delivery cycle has now stretched into weeks, disrupting daily cooking and forcing families to rethink basic routines.

Bookings are continuing as usual through apps, calls and local distributors. The disruption is happening after that stage, where the gap between booking and doorstep delivery has widened significantly.

LPG Crisis Widens Booking To Delivery Gap

Across metros, waiting periods now range from 10 days to more than a month. In several cases, households say deliveries have taken over 40 days, far beyond earlier norms.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has set indicative limits to manage the situation. Urban consumers are expected to receive cylinders within 25 days, while rural areas have a cap of 45 days. However, many city residents say these timelines are not being followed on the ground.

Delivered Status Without Cylinder Raises Concerns

Another issue is adding to the confusion. Consumers in Delhi and Kolkata say their LPG bookings are marked as delivered in official systems even when cylinders have not reached their homes.

This has raised concerns about tracking accuracy and delivery verification. Several users say complaints do not lead to clear answers, while others are asked to wait without a confirmed delivery date.

In the meantime, households are adjusting. Some are rationing gas carefully. Others are switching to induction stoves or borrowing cylinders from neighbours. A few have turned to costlier informal options to manage daily cooking.

The LPG crisis is now visible across social media platforms such as X and Reddit. Users are sharing screenshots of delayed bookings and unresolved complaints. Many describe repeated calls to distributors without clear timelines.

The volume of such posts across cities shows that the issue is widespread and not limited to isolated areas.

What Triggered The LPG Supply Strain

The current disruption traces back to early March 2026, when geopolitical tensions in West Asia affected global LPG supply routes. As an import dependent country, India began to feel the pressure soon after.

By mid March, delays had started appearing in metro cities. By late March, waiting periods had already crossed two to three weeks in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Delhi. The situation worsened further in early April, with more consumers reporting long delays and delivery mismatches.

The government's current approach is to manage supply through waiting period guidelines until imports stabilise. However, with delays continuing and complaints rising, uncertainty remains for households.

For now, many families are adjusting daily routines around limited supply, tracking bookings closely and waiting for delivery timelines to return to normal.
