Liquor Price Hike In Karnataka: Beer Gets Costlier For The Third Time In 18 Months
The Karnataka state government, which rode into power on a wave of promises, is now planning its third liquor price hike in just over a year and a half. The move, aimed at funding the government's commitments, has drawn criticism from consumers who will be forced to bear the brunt of the increased costs.
Just seven months after a 20% price increase across all beer brands, the state government is proposing another hike. The new prices will see an additional Rs. 10 to Rs. 12 per bottle added to the cost of beer. The three-slab pricing system, based on alcohol content, will also be introduced:

- 1st Slab: Beers with up to 5% alcohol content
- 2nd Slab: Beers with 5% to 6% alcohol content
- 3rd Slab: Beers with 6% to 8% alcohol content
All slabs will see a price increase, affecting all beer brands sold in Karnataka.
On August 29, the government reduced prices for premium liquor brands, benefiting mostly affluent consumers. However, this reduction did not extend to the average person, including daily wage earners and farmers. Now, the proposed beer price increase is expected to further strain the finances of ordinary drinkers.
All three slabs are expected to see price hikes, and an official order detailing the new rates will be published soon. This adjustment is expected to impact all beer brands sold in Karnataka, adding financial pressure on consumers as the state seeks to increase revenue.
